the light.

you followed me home,

to the place

where shadows bloom darkest,

and let yourself in

dressed with the sun’s secrets

on your skin

all crystalline beauty

and pretty petals

and green-garden-glimmer

you looked like a heartbreaker

with a smile that sparkled

and those coffee and cocoa eyes

but you smelled

like lilies and larkspur

and l o v e

so i let you kiss me there,

in my forest of gray

and you’ve been lighting up

these woods

ever since

– ashley jane

daylight is for devils too.

your voice

is seared into my mind,

the shrill sound

like when angels scream

and devils dance

and it is one decibel away from

u n b e a r a b l e

it calls from within,

challenging my last stand

against you,

and every damn word

tastes like poison

i can still see your smirk

and that look you give,

your pitch black

soul-haunting stare

stealing my breath

every.single.time.

and I’m left gasping,

choking on a memory,

my tenuous grip on sanity

one slip away from broken

and with these flashbacks

you prove

that not all monsters

live in the shadows

you walked under the sun,

eyes gleaming

and a smile on your face

and yet

you’re far worse

than any demon

i’ve met

in the dark

– ashley jane

i’ve been here ever since.

i dipped my toes
in the promise of tomorrow,
its unexplored depths calling my name
i let its light filter in on shimmering strands
that swore to cleanse the dirt from my hands
but that ethereal glimmer
didn’t have the answers
so i let the dark speak,
its low hum whispering in the distance,
its smoky tone settling into my bones
i let its echoes guide me home

– ashley jane

we rise on haunted nights.

ghostly whispers move

under a voodoo blood moon,

a slow-shimmer-slink

of air over bone,

their dark love calling us home,

cosmic cadavers

with claws that sink deep,

burning nerves

and setting veins on fire

we stand on the cusp of shadows,

slowly disappearing into the ether,

our souls chained to a sinking sun

– ashley jane

garden of heartache.

wilted,

like funeral roses,

black and crumbling

from the weight of your ghost

they sit in stagnant denial,

thoughts swirling

and dreams drowning

in their desolation,

petals plucked

and seeds strewn

perhaps,

they’ll create

a garden of heartache

for all the lonely people

to water

– ashley jane

darkness lives there.

he wears shades

of brimstone and damnation,

never raven black,

all burnished gold, falu and feuillemort

his eyes are home to an hidden world

made of ancient shadows and sunlight

they welcome you into the fire,

but you will not survive their invitation

to explore new depths

(darkness lives within the flames)

– ashley jane

sickly sweet nothings.

they drip
down your chin,
rivulets so saccharine,
(we pretend to loathe the gore)
knives dressed up in velvet
but the blade still stings
love, lies, lullabies
all so crimson sweet
they stain the tongue
grasp-gasp-gone
clean up
when you’re done

Love, Lies and Lullabies: a breath of poetry and prose

My first book of poetry – Love, Lies and Lullabies – is now available on Amazon:

http://a.co/i2G1GYs 💜

Love, Lies, and Lullabies is a collection of poetry about relationships and the emotions that come with them. It is written for the lovers and the liars, the broken and the mended, the hardened hearts and the soft souls who lie and tell everyone that they are fine. Each chapter is filled with poems that detail the ups and downs of life and love, of pain and joy, of losing and finding yourself again.

Please check it out, review it, let me know what you think.
