never again.

you were barrooms and bedroom eyes

filled with sweet nothing promises,

and i swallowed down your love

but couldn’t handle the burn

it left me with a black heart

and a mouth full of ashes

and now i regret the way

i let you breathe me in

because your words

left bullet wounds and bruises

all over my skin

while those whiskey lips of yours

felt just like a razor’s kiss

and i let you bleed me dry

– ashley jane

we’re left as embers and ashes.

i spread all the remnants of you

out on the table,

a pile of memorabilia from another life,

years of photos and letters

scattered within

a tangle of wasted breaths

and words unspoken

ink-stained moments

are all that’s left

of a love that once

burned through the night

– ashley jane

garden of heartache.

wilted,

like funeral roses,

black and crumbling

from the weight of your ghost

they sit in stagnant denial,

thoughts swirling

and dreams drowning

in their desolation,

petals plucked

and seeds strewn

perhaps,

they’ll create

a garden of heartache

for all the lonely people

to water

– ashley jane

this museum isn’t open to the public.

i steep fading memories

in wildflower tea,

walk through vacant rooms

where stale air clings to my skin,

the smell of moths and medicine,

reminders

suspended above,

empty frames on amber walls

in a house filled with little more than silence

you made saying goodbye an art form,

vases full of fallen petal promises,

masterpieces inside every room,

and me, with my own private viewing

Love, Lies and Lullabies: a breath of poetry and prose

My first book of poetry – Love, Lies and Lullabies – is now available on Amazon:

http://a.co/i2G1GYs 💜

Love, Lies, and Lullabies is a collection of poetry about relationships and the emotions that come with them. It is written for the lovers and the liars, the broken and the mended, the hardened hearts and the soft souls who lie and tell everyone that they are fine. Each chapter is filled with poems that detail the ups and downs of life and love, of pain and joy, of losing and finding yourself again.

Please check it out, review it, let me know what you think.

Cold Nights

you ask me for the time

and wanted to know about the weather

and all I could think about was the year

when winter stripped away the last pieces of us

(i’m barely holding on and you barely remember)

we were so busy putting out fires that we let our own die out

i recall those cold nights and feeling like I’d never get warm

the front yard was drowning in carnations and frost,

and i was lost in memories of us

unable to come up for air
