i do not care to reminisce with your days of deceit.

i am walking forwards,

but time is moving backwards

and somehow,

i keep tracing your footsteps

i keep running into you

you celebrate

you call it fate,

but you know i’ve never believed in that

not the way i believe in ghosts

or horoscopes

or bonds that can’t be broken

i am trapped

i am fickle and indecisive

i am whispered dreams

standing at the edge of a scream

but never a follower

no, never

so, will you tell me please

why time has me coming around here,

visiting the minutes of your manipulation,

caught in the seconds of your stare

(i do not like the way these hours feel)

we could’ve been a masterpiece.

you said we used to be brilliant

we used to shine like the sun

we used to paint the town

with the rhythm of our love

but the only color we know now

is the color of deceit

we draw lines across the city,

words etched like hexes

from north to south

you stay on your side,

and i’ll stay on mine

isn’t that right?

we used to be shades of wonder,

of magic, of madness, of mystique

now, we are white lies

etched into a black heart summer,

silence caged in gray

(once upon a time,

we could’ve been the most amazing art)

– ashley jane

you were never good with truth.

this distance tastes

like crimson and clover,

like whiskey on the rocks,

like m e m o r i e s

i swallow them down,

waiting

underneath the stars,

tethered to your deception,

to empty promises

and elusive dreams,

to illusions of love

that were only skin deep

i stand

beneath broken skies,

holding out for you

to say something true

but, we both know

that was never something

you knew how to do

– ashley jane

bloom.

we planted words
and watered them with honey,
our own little garden
of love, lies and lullabies
we watched them grow
side – by – side
we told ourselves that love would survive
it was either bloom or die

(we chose to bloom)

Love, Lies and Lullabies: a breath of poetry and prose

My first book of poetry – Love, Lies and Lullabies – is now available on Amazon:

http://a.co/i2G1GYs 💜

Love, Lies, and Lullabies is a collection of poetry about relationships and the emotions that come with them. It is written for the lovers and the liars, the broken and the mended, the hardened hearts and the soft souls who lie and tell everyone that they are fine. Each chapter is filled with poems that detail the ups and downs of life and love, of pain and joy, of losing and finding yourself again.

Please check it out, review it, let me know what you think.
